AUGUST'S GUINEA PIG OF THE MONTH--Mosby!

We've raised $566 so far, of our $566 goal!
Please continue to forward Mosby's story, and donate!

Meet Mosby
from IN rescue

Mosby is an adorable two year old piggy with a close resemblance to a caterpillar. He has been with Crystal's rescue, RescuedGuineaPigs.com, for about a year, and is presently living in a foster home.

Six months ago Mosby started to lose weight and walk as though it gave him difficulty, so he was off to the vet! The vet determined that Mosby has large points on his molars, as well as arthritis. (Worried your pig might have teeth issues? Visit the teeth page on GuineaLynx!)

As a result, Mosby has to go to the vet every six weeks to get his teeth trimmed. He also needs pain medicine to help his little joints feel better as he toddles around his cage.

Six months worth of care for Mosby costs $466. Because Crystal also recently took in another special needs guinea pig who had been severely abused, I am going to add a $100 cushion for her rescue.

Our fundraising goal is $566!

AUGUST'S GUINEA PIG OF THE MONTH--Junebug!

$424.50 raised so far! WE HAVE MET OUR GOAL! Can we keep going and raise the full amount for Junebug's surgery?

UPDATE: an anonymous donor has offered a match of up to $100, and a separate donor has offered a match up to $33 (so we are seeking $133). We have raised an additional $200 toward this match--WE MET OUR SECONDARY GOAL!

TOTAL RAISED ONCE MATCHED GIFTS ARE RECEIVED: $757.50!

Meet Junebug

from CA rescue

Junebug is one brave pig! This guinea girl was found suffering from a shattering leg injury in a cardboard box outside of a CVS Drugstore in Fremont, Calif. last month.

Shortly after she was discovered abandoned with a tramatic injury, she found refuge at Stockton's Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary this summer. At the sanctuary, Junebug received specialized rehabiliation.

To alleviate her constant pain, Junebug's leg was removed by a small animal vet to the tune of $690.40 shortly after her rescue. Her recovery has been going extremely well.

As a tripod guinea pig, Junebug looks forward to a future free of neglect with her new rescued companion Kealy.

Our goal is to fundraise $345.20 to pay for half the cost of Junebug's operation.

Click here to donate, or scroll down to the paypal button! Please be sure to specify Junebug in the section where it asks for a designation.

Or, you can send a check or money order to:

Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary
PO Box 998
French Camp, CA 95231

Be sure to put Junebug in the memo line!

AUGUST'S (real) PIGS OF THE MONTH-Spice and Misu!

Both these elderly sanctuary pigs are living out their golden years. Spice (the one pictured at left) is over seven years old, rescued from a school situation years ago. He recently lost his life partner, but we think we may have found a new lady piggy for him to snuggle with.

Spice has always been special needs, as he has deformed front feet which turn in and cause him to walk on the sides of his lower legs.

Misu, over 6 years old, also recently lost her life partner. Misu is a brown and white teddy girl whom we hope will warm up to a male friend.

Spice is neutered and recently underwent a mass removal of a suspicious mass on his jaw, and a second mass on his armpit. He has made an amazing recovery for such an old guy, and we hope he will be able to spend more time in his doting foster home.

Though neither piggy is on medication, as sanctuary pigs they still place a financial strain on the rescue. Not to mention that Wee Companions also has 20 pregnant females in addition to these two!!

We are hoping to raise $300 for their care. Please won't you help us with a donation today?

AUGUST'S GUINEA PIGS OF THE MONTH-The Texas Pigs!

UPDATE: All of the guinea pigs have been adopted, except for five. This is worrisome. Some may have been bought as breeders or feeders. Hopefully as many as possible went to good homes! Regardless, they are not there to fundraise for, so we are reverting back to the original August piggy, Spice!

Urgent! There have been 90 guinea pigs surrendered to a TX shelter. They are in desperate need of rescues and adopters.

SAGP will be fundraising for these pigs for the month of August, but I'm not sure whether we're going to fundraise for a rescue that takes in some of the pigs, or the shelter itself. Please place $5 aside (or any other amount) until further notice.

AUGUST'S PIG OF THE MONTH-Dunkin!

"Dunkin came via owner surrender to our local rescue group. This male is approximately 2 ½ yrs old and super sweet. Because he seemed to have labored breathing, we took him to the vet only to find out he had previous internal injuries and some type of heart condition. This was complicated by pneumonia.

His lungs improve everyday with a course of antibiotics, but his heart will require medication for the rest of his life. He loves to eat- everything! – and is a super friendly little guy. My kids insist he resembles a ground hog! He has a great disposition and his condition does not seem to keep him from doing what guinea pigs do- squeak and eat!

He will require monthly vet visits as well as 2 prescriptions 3X/day for the heart and lung condition. He will need follow-up x-rays to see if the medicines are helping with the fluid around his heart. So far, his medical cost since late May exceed $358 in vet visits, x-rays and prescriptions. Monthly meds will be approx $80 as well as a monthly check up with the vet costing approx $40.Follow-up x-rays will be needed eventually at the cost of $124."

Our goal is to fundraise enough for two months of meds and two vet visits, reaching a total of $240. Will you help us with a $1 or larger donation today?

Thank you from August's pig, Piglet!

Sponsor A Guinea Pig has raised
$258.26 for August's pig,
Piglet!

That's a great kick off for the site's first month, and it will make a real difference for Piglet. Piglet is All Creatures Rescue and Sanctuary's most expensive pig, as her medical expenses are at least $200 per month.

We've raised enough for a monthly vet visit for Piglet! Go team Sponsor A Guinea Pig!

A quote from a post made by Piglet's caretaker:

"I just wanted to update with some new pictures, and another thank you. We're over $210 total donations for Piglet!! I can't tell you all how much this helps and how grateful we are.

Piglet is always waiting for dinner in (or under) her cuddle cup when I get home. You can see she still has a smudge of breakfast on her nose!

SO HAPPY DINNER OM NOM NOM!! She gets so excited any time you bring food to her. She's finally eating alfalfa. I mix it with a little timothy/bluegrass to try to trick her but that usually just gets pushed to the back

Wait, is there more?

A very happy ending.

Thanks again to all of you who have donated to Sponsor A Guinea Pig!"

AUGUST'S GUINEA PIG OF THE MONTH-Piglet!

Piglet is a special needs pig who has been with the rescue since May 4th. Piglet was surrendered to the rescue via a local vet, where her owners had left her to be euthanized. Piglet obviously had such a desire to live and the staff couldn't bear to put this cutie to sleep. So they contacted the ACR&S, knowing they could save her.

(Please click here if the button does not work to make a tax-deductible donation)

Piglet had no incisors but had made it to three years old, underweight, malnourished and neglected. Piglet suffered from severe scurvy, among other worrisome conditions. She had never had hay.

Between Piglet's plucky spirit and ACR&S's devoted care, Piglet is doing much better. She's had some very beneficial dental surgery, and is loving her regular diet of critical care (sort of like a power shake for guinea pigs). Read about her latest medical adventures here. However, Piglet still needs more help. Her veterinary bills cost $200 a month, making her ACR&S's most expensive resident.

Please donate to help Piglet
learn to live a life of comfort.

Thank you for being an advocate for those who cannot help themselves. Please pass Piglet's story and this site on to others.
