SEPTEMBER'S GUINEA PIG II--Lorenzo!

So far we have raised $559.33!
WE RAISED THE FULL AMOUNT OF LORENZO'S SURGERY!
And we have raised over $20,000 for guinea pigs since the site's inception!

Meet Lorenzo
from CA rescue

Lorenzo has a guardian angel (D), who drove 200 miles round trip to rescue him from a shelter where he was at risk of being put to sleep for his broken leg. The shelter staff knew what a sweet piggie Lorenzo is, and knew he deserved a chance at life if he could get it.

You can help give him that chance.

Lorenzo's operation is going to cost $550. We are going to try to fundraise for $275 and cover half of the cost of the operation. If we make our goal before September 30th, we're going to keep going and try and raise the full amount!

X-ray of Lorenzo's broken leg.

SEPTEMBER'S GUINEA PIG--Eros!

A round of applause for our supporters!
We met the goal by day FIVE! $430 raised so far!

Meet Eros
from CA rescue

Eros came to Wee Companions through a long and assorted journey.
Though we are not sure how old he is, he moves and acts like an old
man that has been given a new lease on life.

Wee Companions was contacted by a local San Diego dog and cat rescue
that had recently been involved with removing animals from a hoarder.
In the midst of the menagerie, there was one orange and white guinea
pig.  He was found outside in a wire cage that had sodden, rotting
cardboard on the bottom.  The only food in his cage was cheep cat food
and whatever blades of grass could grow through the wires.  When the
dog and cat folk got there, they gracious look the little guinea man
too, and then sought specialized help for him.  Wee Companions went to
pick up this little man on Valentine's Day, and his name was
officially christened, Eros.

Even though Eros was safe in loving arms, it was touch and go for a
few weeks. To this day, Eros cannot stomach a lot of vegetables and
isn't quite used to the idea of eating hay, so his GI Tract has good
and bad days.  Eros still suffers from terrible arthritis, so much so,
that if he doesn't get his pain meds, he is unable to use his back
legs.  Now, many months later, after his bath, a round of antibiotics
and anti-parasitics, living on soft and clean fleece, given all the
hay/pellets/water he desires, and getting arthritis medicine daily,
Eros can move freely and has learned that the human hand brings nose
"scritches" not fear.

Eros now lives at one of Wee Companions sanctuary/hospice homes where
he is pampered day in and out.  Because he was so compromised, his
monthly upkeep is about $200, due to the medicines and comfort care.

Thank you for giving Eros another chance to live passionately!

Meet Junebug

from CA rescue

Junebug is one brave pig! This guinea girl was found suffering from a shattering leg injury in a cardboard box outside of a CVS Drugstore in Fremont, Calif. last month.

Shortly after she was discovered abandoned with a tramatic injury, she found refuge at Stockton's Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary this summer. At the sanctuary, Junebug received specialized rehabiliation.

To alleviate her constant pain, Junebug's leg was removed by a small animal vet to the tune of $690.40 shortly after her rescue. Her recovery has been going extremely well.

As a tripod guinea pig, Junebug looks forward to a future free of neglect with her new rescued companion Kealy.

Our goal is to fundraise $345.20 to pay for half the cost of Junebug's operation.

Click here to donate, or scroll down to the paypal button! Please be sure to specify Junebug in the section where it asks for a designation.

Or, you can send a check or money order to:

Be sure to put Junebug in the memo line!

JULY'S GUINEA PIG OF THE MONTH--George!

We have raised $380 so far! WE MET OUR GOAL!

Meet George
from

George was transferred from Wee Companions, a guinea pig shelter in San Diego, on February 8, 2011.  He came with his wife Millie.  George and Millie were at that time 5 year old pigs.  Millie had a malignant tumor in her bladder and it was decided, for this reason, that they both go into a private foster home to live out their remaining days.

When this happens they become what we call “Sanctuary Pigs”.  These are unadoptable pigs due to age, health reasons, or behavior issues that make them unadoptable to the public.

Millie lived for six months before she passed.  George was heartbroken.

It just so happened that one of Piggie Poo’s Directors had two female sanctuary piggies.  Since George was a neutered boar, it was decided to move him to her house and try living with these senior ladies.  He was overjoyed!

He especially loves Tater Tot.  They snuggle together in their hut and Tater will even groom George.  Recently a third older female has joined the herd and he loves her as well.  He is now over 6 years old and is an extremely happy little guy.  He is super spoiled.  George loves his “mommy”, especially when she gives him chin rubs.

We are hoping to raise $375 for George's care, which will last him several months. Please help by donating or sharing George's story!
