Meet Junebug

from CA rescue

Junebug is one brave pig! This guinea girl was found suffering from a shattering leg injury in a cardboard box outside of a CVS Drugstore in Fremont, Calif. last month.

Shortly after she was discovered abandoned with a tramatic injury, she found refuge at Stockton's Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary this summer. At the sanctuary, Junebug received specialized rehabiliation.

To alleviate her constant pain, Junebug's leg was removed by a small animal vet to the tune of $690.40 shortly after her rescue. Her recovery has been going extremely well.

As a tripod guinea pig, Junebug looks forward to a future free of neglect with her new rescued companion Kealy.

Our goal is to fundraise $345.20 to pay for half the cost of Junebug's operation.

JULY'S GUINEA PIG OF THE MONTH--George!

We have raised $380 so far! WE MET OUR GOAL!

Meet George
from

George was transferred from Wee Companions, a guinea pig shelter in San Diego, on February 8, 2011.  He came with his wife Millie.  George and Millie were at that time 5 year old pigs.  Millie had a malignant tumor in her bladder and it was decided, for this reason, that they both go into a private foster home to live out their remaining days.

When this happens they become what we call “Sanctuary Pigs”.  These are unadoptable pigs due to age, health reasons, or behavior issues that make them unadoptable to the public.

Millie lived for six months before she passed.  George was heartbroken.

It just so happened that one of Piggie Poo’s Directors had two female sanctuary piggies.  Since George was a neutered boar, it was decided to move him to her house and try living with these senior ladies.  He was overjoyed!

He especially loves Tater Tot.  They snuggle together in their hut and Tater will even groom George.  Recently a third older female has joined the herd and he loves her as well.  He is now over 6 years old and is an extremely happy little guy.  He is super spoiled.  George loves his “mommy”, especially when she gives him chin rubs.

We are hoping to raise $375 for George's care, which will last him several months. Please help by donating or sharing George's story!

JUNE'S GUINEA PIG OF THE MONTH--Harley!

WE MET OUR GOAL! $494.71 raised!

Meet Harley from

The Critter Connection!

The Critter Connection received a phone call from their vet hospital at 8:00pm in April.  Someone had found a guinea pig in the woods in a tiny plastic container, went and got him right away.  The stench is the container was horrible.  Harley was dehydrated and paralyzed in the back end.  Estimated him to be about 6 weeks old.

We gave him some fluids and an injection of vitamin C that night and then I brought him home.  The next day our vet did xrays and found nothing abnormal in his back end.  Determined that severe malnutrition, vitamin C deficiency, and confinement in a container that wasn't even big enough for a spider was the problem.

Continued with injections of vitamin C, slowly started him on a good diet, and began massage therapy.  Harley has made huge strides and has 90 percent use of his back legs.  His buddy Mumbo is helping me with Harley's physical theraphy.

Mumbo is one of our permanent senior males and Harley follows him everywhere.  I have a long carpeted ramp with a gentle incline and twice a day I put treats all along the ramp.   Harley's costs are maintenance, daily vitamin C supplement, fresh veggies twice a day, puppy pee pads under fleece in one area of his cage, carefresh in the other. He should be adoptable in another month or two.

Harley's costs are about $150 a month. We are trying to fundraise enough for 2.5 months, or $375.

MAY'S GUINEA PIG OF THE MONTH--Chocolate Eclair!

$413.23 raised so far!! WE REACHED OUR GOAL!

UPDATE: We have an offer of a matching gift of $75! If you donate $75, your gift will go twice as far!

Meet Chocolate Eclair from

Five year old Chocolate Eclair (or Clair, for short) came into the rescue with three other elderly guinea pigs shortly after Christmas of 2011.  They were given up because the children in their family had gotten older and were no longer interacting with them.  The mom in the family fed them and the dad cleaned the cage every week but they didn't receive any additional attention for months.  Clair had possibly the worst case of bumblefoot I had ever seen.  This isn't something that cropped up suddenly.  It had slowly developed over many painful months.

I knew she was in agony when she arrived because she was skinny, her eyes were glassy and she was extremely reluctant to move.

We got her to the vet later that day.  He agreed that due to the severity of the infection, there was bone involvement and this was no doubt going to be a chronic and complicated condition to treat.

Within a few days of being on metacam for pain and swelling, she was becoming very difficult to catch so we knew she was feeling better.  She was also trying to dominate her cage mate which was a very good sign and after a few weeks, she started to gain weight.

She has betadine food soaks twice daily, a dose of metacam once daily for pain, silver sulfadiazine cream for the bottom of her foot, and periodic use of the antibiotic baytril as recommended by her vet.  She has monthly vet visits to monitor her condition.

We estimate the cost of her care to be approximately $80 per month.

SAGP will be fundraising for four months of Clair's care, meaning a goal of $320. Please donate or pass along Clair's story!

APRIL'S GUINEA PIG OF THE MONTH-Ollie!

$530.29 or 400.10 pounds raised so far! WOO HOO WE MADE OUR GOAL!

UPDATE: We have a person willing to match a $75 donation! If you make a $75 donation, your dollars will be doubled!

UPDATE: MATCH MADE. Thanks to both parties!

Meet Ollie
from UK Rescue

Ollie is around a 14 months old and has many problems. He has no bottom incisors, so his top ones grow at an enormous rate, he is unable to close his mouth properly and also has a heart problem.

Despite his many little difficulties he is game to try anything and is great at escaping from his pen. He has been in TC Rescue for around 6 months and has gained weight during that that time and is blossoming out into a real character. He often visits other piggies or goes walk about on the floor. Ollie needs to visit the vet every 6 weeks or so to trim his teeth and make sure that the back teeth are still okay. I can keep the incisors trimmed between visits but am unable to do his molars myself.Ollie also needs at least two feeds of critical Care per day and all his veg cut up into batons. He also needs his heart meds daily. He was a dirty, skinny little lad when he first arrived and while he will never be a big rounded piggy he is doing just fine.

We are hoping to raise $275 or 207.41 pounds. Please donate, and share Ollie's story!
