SEPTEMBER'S GUINEA PIG OF THE MONTH--Ginger!

We have raised $535 out of our $450 goal! Keep forwarding Ginger's story, and consider donating!

Meet Ginger
from BC, Canada Rescue

Ginger is a lovely five year old girl with a large cyst on her back, which needs to be surgically removed. We are trying to fund raise $450 ($300 for the surgery, another $150 for a cushion in case there are complications) to have this happen as soon as possible, to avoid needing an unnecessarily large incision as the cyst grows.

As only our second Canadian piggy to be featured, Ginger would greatly appreciate your support! Please click the donate button below, and pass along Ginger's story! Thank you so much!

AUGUST'S GUINEA PIG OF THE MONTH--Mosby!

We've raised $566 so far, of our $566 goal!
Please continue to forward Mosby's story, and donate!

Meet Mosby
from IN rescue

Mosby is an adorable two year old piggy with a close resemblance to a caterpillar. He has been with Crystal's rescue, RescuedGuineaPigs.com, for about a year, and is presently living in a foster home.

Six months ago Mosby started to lose weight and walk as though it gave him difficulty, so he was off to the vet! The vet determined that Mosby has large points on his molars, as well as arthritis. (Worried your pig might have teeth issues? Visit the teeth page on GuineaLynx!)

As a result, Mosby has to go to the vet every six weeks to get his teeth trimmed. He also needs pain medicine to help his little joints feel better as he toddles around his cage.

Six months worth of care for Mosby costs $466. Because Crystal also recently took in another special needs guinea pig who had been severely abused, I am going to add a $100 cushion for her rescue.

Our fundraising goal is $566!

Where did the pigs go?

Hello all!

I am sorry for the two month hiatus in special needs piggies. I was busy graduating from grad school!

I'm very excited to be back with the piggies though.

JULY'S GUINEA PIG OF THE MONTH--Cletus!

We've raised $870 so far of the $600! WE MET OUR GOAL!
Please forward and continue to share Cletus' story!

Meet Cletus
from VA rescue

Meet Cletus. One of the sweetest old men to come into our rescue in a long time.  He didn’t make his trip here quite the way most guinea pigs do. Cletus was already in a sanctuary program in another rescue when its founder became ill very suddenly. She needed to find a place for her guinea pigs. Metropolitan Guinea Pig Rescue was able to step in and take all six of them. Two adoptable pairs and two oldsters that the rescue was intending to keep for their natural lives. We will honor their intentions and keep Cletus and Macy as sanctuary pigs.

Cletus was obviously too old to neuter and had some congestion in his lungs. He was treated and seemed better. He also had a pretty severe impaction problem. His foster mom improved the situation slightly by giving him probiotics and cleaning him multiple times a day. Then, as they say, the other shoe dropped. Cletus stopped eating very suddenly and stopped coming out of his hide. He was quickly taken to the vet where an x-ray showed a huge stone blocking his urethra.

It was surgery or die for a pig that was too old even to have a much simpler neuter surgery. The tough little guy made it through the surgery but it was a real battle back to health for him. His vet fees so far are $489.85. Ongoing, he will need to be treated for the very advanced arthritis that was also found on the x-rays when his stones were diagnosed and probiotics for his impaction issues.

As you can tell by his chewed up little ears he didn’t have the easiest time before he got here. We intend to make the rest of his life a guinea pig’s dream.

OUR GOAL IS TO RAISE $600. CAN WE DO IT??

APRIL'S GUINEA PIG OF THE MONTH--Bubbles!

So far we have raised 183.53 pounds or $284.23! We met our goal, but let's keep going!

MEET
BUBBLES
FROM UK RESCUE

Meet Bubbles who is around 2 years old. She came into the Rescue in poor condition along with a little sow who had a broken leg. Bubbles went blind not long after arrival, with cataracts.Thankfully she is not diabetic, she has a very bad heart murmur and urinary tract problems. Heart meds, Cystease and Antibiotics are costing around £40 per month. It is thought that she has non specific cystitis but kidney problems may be a factor in her constant wee-ing and drinking. No enlargement of the kidneys have been found to date but it is early days yet and this may show up at anytime. Bubbles is a feisty-wee girl who lost her partner recently and is disinclined to accept another piggy companion at the moment. We are working on this daily in the hope that she accepts another friend or two very soon. Meantime she lives next door to a handsome boar who very much wants to be friends, they are separated by  grids to help Bubbles become used to him. To date whenever she is given time with him and another sow she attacks instantly but this is getting better each time. I think this has a lot to do with her being blind.

OUR GOAL IS TO FUNDRAISE FOR FOUR MONTHS OF BUBBLES' CARE, or £120 ($245.42)!!

MARCH'S GUINEA PIG OF THE MONTH--Part 2! Spike

$236.66 raised so far! WE MET OUR GOAL!
Please keep sharing Spike's story, and consider donating!

Meet SPIKE

from CA rescue

Orange County Cavy Haven!

Because we did such a great job fundraising for Junebug, and there are a number of days left in March, we are going to try to fundraise for a second piggy--Spike!

Spike came into the rescue from an LA shelter in June, 2011.  We were unable to place him due to several ongoing medical issues that took time to resolve.  He had teeth issues, a bad case of fungus that took time to deal with, and an abscess that kept filling up and had to be drained several times.  Finally, we were able to get his medical issues under control and he enjoyed several months of comfort.

Now, however, he has started to cry when he urinates and he has to go back in to be evaluated for a possible bladder stone.  Based on his past medical issues, we are going to have him fully evaluated.  The anticipated cost for his visit is $200 (if, as we hope, he does not need surgery).

Spike is a real trooper and, in spite of all of his medical issues, he continues to adore his foster mom and enjoys his life.  He is a real character and a very special boy.  We are committed to doing our part to make sure he can live as long and happily as possible!

MARCH'S GUINEA PIG OF THE MONTH--Junebug!

$827.48 raised so far for Junebug! WE MET OUR GOAL!

Please keep donating, and spread her story!

Meet Junebug
from CA Rescue

Junebug came to OCCH in June of 2011.  Although she is a cuy (found in the wild in Peru), weighing in at 5 pounds, she is extremely gentle and often comes to events to help educate the public about cuys.

Junebug needs to get chest x-rays to be diagnosed for heart meds, and we expect that she will be on heart meds for life. Additionally, she has a terrible case of fungus, which her foster mom has been battling diligently with topical treatments, continues to recur.

Her vet is able to treat the fungus and take care of getting her on proper heart meds but, because we were hit with a string of emergency surgeries, which hit our medical fund hard, Junebug has had to wait to get her treatment.

The estimated total cost for x-rays, and enough medications to get “Buggy” through three months is $325.

FEBRUARY'S GUINEA PIG OF THE MONTH--Mr. Chance!

$410 raised so far, independent of the match! That's $610 total--we met our goal! Please consider donating or sharing Mr. Chance's story.

UPDATE: We have an anonymous donor willing to match up to $200! Please take advantage of this opportunity and donate any amount. MATCH REACHED!

Meet Mr. Chance

from AZ Rescue

ARIZONA PIGGIE POO RESCUE!

Mr. Chance, along with his pals Cash, Claus, and Cosmo came to Piggie Poo Rescue from a hoarder in Peoria, who when investigated by Peoria Animal Care & Control, chose to voluntarily surrender these four piggies. Mr. Chance has a terrible case of conjunctivitis and all have upper respiratory infections and are expected to be on meds for up to 4 weeks and in foster care for an additional month or more. Expected cost to the Rescue for all (4) piggies, including Vet cost is approximately $300.

I'd like to get the rescue a bit of a cushion, though, so we are going to fundraise for $400.

JANUARY'S PIG OF THE MONTH--Rapunzel!

$487.01 raised so far for Rapunzel--WE MET OUR GOAL!! Please donate and forward!

Meet Rapunzel from

North Jersey Guinea Pig and Hamster Rescue!

This 8 month old peruvian girl came into the rescue from a hoarder.  When she arrived, she was active and would eat, but not enough to maintain her weight.  We fed her with critical care for several weeks when it became obvious she was pregnant.  On Thanksgiving day, she delivered two stillborn pups.

She still was not eating as much as she should.  The vet took x-rays and did blood work. He checked her teeth and filed down some small points, but nothing significant.  He found nothing obviously wrong.  He wants to do exploratory surgery and possibly a spay but does not want to risk the surgery until she has gained some more weight.  We are continuing the supplemental feedings and she is beginning to gain weight.

We are asking for contributions to reimburse us for the anesthesia/tooth filing, blood work and x-rays and anything that is left over, if any, will be applied to her future surgery. Our fundraising goal is $365.

Thank you SAGP for this opportunity to help her.  She is a very sweet girl and we want to do the best we can for her.  We are grateful for all assistance.
